Two Ways to Check a Tag

Every tag we mint resolves through this service, whether your phone’s browser opens its link or one of our apps scans it. Both paths check the same single-use code, and only an app can also read the chip itself.

Browser Scan

Any Modern Phone, No App Needed

The tag hands your phone a link carrying a fresh single-use code, and we redeem it against the tag’s counter. A browser cannot talk to the chip, so IC Status reads Not Evaluated on a standard tag.

  • Single-Use Code Redeemed
  • Public Record Shown Where One Exists
  • Factory Signature Verified on the Phone
  • Seal Read on TagTamper Chips Only
IC Status Not Evaluated

App Scan

Free NFC Proof App, No Account

NFC Proof reads the chip and sends us its single-use code for the same check. On your phone, it verifies the chip’s NXP factory signature, which IC Status reports as ECC, and it reads the seal on TagTamper chips.

How Our Apps Use This Service

These four apps work through this service, and each one uses it for a different job. Each card describes that job and links to the app’s own site.

NFC Proof

NFC Proof reads every tag we mint, including TamperKit, OnceMark, and StampCats tags, and sends each scan here for the same single-use check. Its scan log stays on your device. It’s free on iPhone and Android and needs no account.

TamperKit

When TamperKit activates a tag, we record its counter, and the activation must carry the next fresh code within five minutes. On TagTamper seals, the app reads the seal through us instead of trusting the phone alone. The record stays private unless its activator chooses to share it.

OnceMark

The OnceMark app writes a tag’s anonymous public record once, through this service, and the database refuses any later change. Every scan, including a browser scan, shows that record under a Third-Party Metadata disclosure. We check that it has not changed since it was written, and we do not vouch for what it says.

StampCats

The StampCats app sends each scan with your location (if approved), and we return a stamp token that expires after five minutes. The StampCats service checks that token, and the place, before it awards a passport stamp. A browser scan shows the tag with a StampCats badge and awards nothing.

What Validation Establishes

A successful check establishes that the scan data came from a live chip holding keys we wrote. Chip evidence is separate and rides in the IC Status chips, where ECC, Secure, and Not Evaluated each report a different thing. The tamper wire is a separate reading again, and it comes only from TagTamper chips. A record’s integrity is not the truth of what its author wrote. A check that does not complete is not evidence of a counterfeit.
